Sunday was mostly a nice restful day. We began by walking to St. Patricks Cathedral. The staff was impressed that we were there in church clothes; less so that we were not there for mass.
Then we took the No. 1 train from 50th and Broadway to 66th Street, where the Temple is located. We had more time than expected so we walked around the Lincoln Center and Julliard. We even found a piano set up for anyone to play. The kids did an impromptu concert - so now we can say that they've each played a concert at the Lincoln Center.
Going to church in the Temple was the treat of the day. We met with the Manhattan First Ward and about half of the congregation were visitors like us. We ran into Carl LeSeur (a classmate from Chicago Law), who had just returned from his honeymoon and was adjusting to the family ward. Very nice to catch up with a good friend.
After church we took the 1 and E trains back home and napped until it was time to go to the fireworks. I had chosen our apartment in part because it was close to where the fireworks would be on the east river.
Unfortunately, after we booked, I learned that the fireworks were changed this year to the Hudson river. So instead of a 10 minute walk each way, we had a 45 minute walk each way. On the plus side, though, we set up in front of an ocean liner where the Mormon Tabernacle Choir was supposed to perform. Alas, that also didn't pan out as the Choir did not sing to the crowd on 12th Ave (and yes, by the time the fireworks began it was standing room only). The fireworks were great, if a little obscured by the boats and trees. Then we walk back home - mostly in the middle of 50th street as the crowds were much too large for the sidewalks.

Wow! What a fun trip! I remember all those places (and the 4th of July fireworks) from when Nate summered in NYC. I miss New York.
My boys are SO JEALOUS you got to see the Yankees.
